ALKAN SHELTER AWARDED $11,931,975 UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS CONTRACT
Contract signals new composite technology focus for military applications
October 19, 2007, Fairbanks, Alaska - Alkan Shelter, LLC announced today that it has been awarded an $11,931,975 contract for procurement of a Composite Shelter System (CSS) to house the MCSET-40 Tire Changing Facility for the United States Marine Corps.
The current USMC tire changing system is housed in an aluminum and honeycombed-based shelter that has limitations. It is only rated at 15,000 lbs gross, the floor and ceiling allowable loads are less than what has been experienced in the field and provisions for ramps to the entrance are lacking.
This Scope of Work (SOW) identifies and establishes the minimum requirements for a composite carbon fiber based shelter system to house the MCSET-40 tire changing facility for use in all global environments.
Alkan shelters are manufactured as rigid wall, expandable and portable structures for use in the military, homeland security, research and exploration and highly sensitive equipment protection in some of the most remote locations and extreme environments on earth. The products have extremely high strength to low weight ratios, are corrosion resistant, provide ballistic protection and thermal insulation, and offer a 30 year lifespan.
